SCA dismisses Safa R14m tickets liability

In the aftermath of the 2010 World Cup, the SA Football Association (Safa) was cleared on appeal from paying nearly R14m to a travel agency after it could not supply match tickets as part of packages offered to VIPs. According to a report in the Weekend Argus, Fli-Africa Travel earlier obtained an order that Safa had to pay it the money it said it had lost as the travel packages fell through because Safa could not deliver on the tickets for the SA tournament. But the SCA overturned that verdict and said Safa could not be held responsible, as the travel agent had jumped the gun by booking accommodation even before it had the tickets in hand. Safa said it did not provide tickets as it had undertaken to do, as Fifa and Match were the only ones entitled to do so.
