Safa vehicles attached over failure to pay salaries

The SA Football Association (Safa) has been plunged into yet another crisis after its assets were attached following the Umgungundlovu Region’s failure to pay staff their salaries for more than a year, says a Sunday Tribune report. The sheriff of the court, Siphesihle Ngcobo, attached two of Safa’s Mercedes Benz Sprinter minibuses at its head office in Nasrec, Johannesburg after the CCMA ruled in the employees’ favour. The two minibuses have a market value of R70 000 each, according to the evaluation documents. The report notes Safa’s Umgungundlovu Region was disbanded by the head office’s membership affairs committee because of a leadership squabble between Musa Zondi and Mzo Ndlovu who lead parallel factions. Two Umgungundlovu Region’s staffers, Mthokozisi Gilchrist Buthelezi and Hloniphile Hlongwane, took the matter to the CCMA for mediation after their pleas for non-payment of their salaries were ignored.
