SA paedophile disappears after deportation

A former water polo and school rugby coach who has been deported by Australian authorities has gone missing after the SA Police Service (SAPS) was not informed about the deportation, Rapport reports. Dean Carelse, who was a coach at Grey College, Gqeberha, was arrested in Australia in 2021 after more than 2 000 pictures of minors, including child pornography, were found on his cellphone. He was convicted by a court in Queensland on 20 charges of child pornography and 14 counts of indecent behaviour towards children. After two years in custody, Carelse was deported. Colonel Heila Niemand of the SAPS Organised Crime Unit says they were ‘ready to meet (Carelse) at the airport’ when their Australian counterparts informed them that the deportation process started. ‘But the next thing we heard he was in the country. They never informed us when they put him on the airplane,’ Niemand said. The Australian authorities told the SAPS they have identified up to 60 victims in SA, Niemand says, but then refused to divulge further information. ‘They sent us 12 names, and only names without surnames, without dates of births or any other information,’ Niemand added. The Queensland Police Service told ABC News they did not share all formation as ‘the material is child exploitation and it is not something we can simply send around’. Carelse has reportedly been spotted in the UK.
