Pathologist in the dock in body parts case

The organ theft case against former Kenyan Government pathologist Moses Njue has taken a dramatic turn after a key witness said Njue confessed to stealing a heart. Advocate Charles Mwongela, whose father Benedict Karau was buried without a heart, told a Meru court that chief pathologist Johansen Oduor told him that Njue had confessed to taking the heart. The Nation reports that he told Magistrate Hannah Ndung’u that he suspected that his father may have been killed. ‘I was told he choked with food when he was taking dinner. That reason did not satisfy me because when my brothers went to view the body at the mortuary, they said it had bruises,’ he said. The first autopsy was conducted by Njue and pathologist Scholastica Kimani on 12 March 2015. The body was exhumed five months later for a second examination. Mwongela said it was then discovered that the heart and kidney were missing. The case will resume in February.
