The CAR’s ousted assembly leader says he will legally challenge his sacking which has taken on sectarian overtones. A report on the News24 site notes that the Muslim politician called for ‘calm’ and for his ousting not to be turned into a debate over religion. At the same time, however, he noted that 38 out of the 41 deputies who voted against him were Christian. ‘The fight continues but it is a judicial fight,’ Karim Meckassoua declared, saying he would take his case all the way to the Constitutional Court. The Bangui Government has denied any religious motives in the dismissal of the lawmaker.
