Court rejects latest poll petition

Nigeria's Supreme Court has struck out the latest appeal filed by the presidential candidate Ambrose Owuru who was seeking the nullification of President Muhammadu Buhari's re-election. The matter was before a four-member panel led by Justice Olukayode Ariwoola. Owuru and his Hope Democratic Party had requested the court to allow them to resubmit their appeal which was previously dismissed. The Premium Times reports that the court also refused to award costs against the appellants as demanded by Yunus Usman, a counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission. Legalbrief reports that Buhari was re-elected in February after defeating his closest rival Atiku Abubakar by more than 3m votes.
