Abuja launches ‘cyberwarfare’ operation

The Nigerian army has announced the commencement of a nationwide ‘cyberwarfare’ operation, as protests against police brutality continue in the country. The Premium Times reports that the army said the operation would be staged under the banner of Exercise Crocodile Smile, an annual exercise held in the last quarter of the year. It said the operation would include cyberwarfare exercises designed ‘to identify, track and counter negative propaganda in social media and across the cyberspace’. It aims to improve the country’s military capacity and resilience against hostile cyber acts.
