Namibian President seeks to solidify ties with China

Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is in China for a seven-day state visit at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, reports CGTN. This is her first trip to the country since assuming office. This visit comes as the two countries celebrate the 36th anniversary of the diplomatic ties. China and Namibia established diplomatic relations in 1990, and since then bilateral ties have developed steadily. In 2018, the two countries elevated their relationship to a comprehensive strategic and co-operative partnership. China is Namibia's main trading partner. In 2025, bilateral trade reached $1.85bn, up 35.7 %t year on year. China's Foreign Ministry said the visit will elevate China-Namibia relations to a new high, contribute to building an all-weather China-Africa. The Namibian reports that Nandi-Ndaitwah said she had deliberately chosen Guangzhou as her point of entry into China because of its significant economic profile and expressed confidence that the visit would create valuable opportunities for the Namibian delegation and accompanying business community, according to the Namibian presidency.
