Museveni names 28 new judges
Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has named 28 new judges to fill vacant positions in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court, says a New Vision report.
The appointments are subject to parliamentary approval and the names have been forwarded to the Speaker of Parliament for vetting. The report says surprise appointments to the Court of Appeal include the Director of Public Prosecution, Richard Butera, Professor Lilian Tibatemwa and Kenneth Kakuru. Tibatemwa is the Makerere University Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of academics while Kakuru is a prominent human rights lawyer. Full New Vision report
