Mnangagwa addresses Mugabe concerns

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is gradually losing patience with his former boss Robert Mugabe as the latter becomes visible in politics once again. As previously reported in Legalbrief Today, Mugabe last month met AU Commission chairperson Moussa Faki and told him that he was toppled by a coup. Since then he has openly opposed the Mnangagwa presidency‚ raising concern that the upcoming elections might not be free and fair. A BusinessLIVE report notes that Mugabe is now rallying behind a new organisation called New Patriotic Front, and has also had meetings with other opposition leaders. Mnangagwa warned last week that his patience is wearing thing. 'With the former President there is an issue. Currently we are not happy with what the media is saying. It is an issue we are examining,' he said.

Mugabe doesn't want to join cash-starved Zimbabwe's bank queues: he wants his pension in cash. The Sunday Mail reports that it has emerged that he is asking for a lump sum payout of nearly $500 000 plus his monthly pension of more than $13 000 in cash. ‘The former president was being paid his salary in cash and he has requested that the same arrangement be maintained,’ said Public Service Commission chair Mariyawanda Nzuwah. The newspaper has established that former First Lady Grace Mugabe is also receiving a monthly payment of $2 170 from the state.
