Exorbitant accreditation fees dropped

The Mozambican Government has revoked a decree passed last July requiring journalists to pay hefty accreditation fees. Foreign correspondents had to pay $2 500 for each trip to the country and those based there $8 300 a year. BBC News reports that Cabinet’s decision followed a ruling by the Constitutional Council, which declared the decree unconstitutional. Accreditation licences are now free, but journalists are required to pay $7 for an accreditation card.
