Administrator cleared after damning probe

Mali's Basketball Federation president Hamane Niang has resumed his position as head of global basketball’s governing body after being cleared of overlooking sexual abuse in the sport in Mali. Niang stepped aside in June as an investigation was held into allegations of long-running sexual abuse within the federation while he was in charge between 1999 and 2007. While an independent report commissioned by the International Basketball Federation (Fiba) 'does not provide any evidence' of Niang's knowledge of such matters, it did confirm that sexual abuse was rife within the West African federation. BBC News reports that three further individuals have been suspended as a result, taking to seven the tally now suspended by Fiba following the investigation. The 149-page report suggests that Fiba which pledges 'zero tolerance for all forms or harassment and abuse' should consider compiling a global registry to record sexual abuse allegations'. Niang said the investigation is ‘of paramount importance and I would like to express my personal and unconditional support to the victims’.
