New government installed after March massacre

President Ibrahim Keita has named a new government after its predecessor resigned last month amid widespread protests over an upsurge of deadly inter-communal violence. He announced the new executive of 37 members under Prime Minister Boubou Cisse, who was appointed on 22 April to oversee the formation of a ‘broad-based’ government. A report on the News24 site notes that Cisse last week signed a pact with opposition and majority party representatives declaring their willingness to set up a ‘politically-inclusive’ new government. His predecessor Soumeylou Maiga and the entire Cabinet resigned on 18 April following the massacre of about 160 members of a herding community in March near Mali's border with Burkina Faso.
