Church calls for graft clampdown

The Livingstonia Synod of Church of Central Africa Presbyterian has urged President Lazarus Chakwera to continue to address the scourge of corruption. The Nyasa Times reports that the church’s outgoing general-secretary Levi Nyondo expressed concern that many graft suspects have been granted bail and investigations have stalled. ‘Government has started on a good note, especially on arresting people who stole from the public purse. We encourage them to do more,’ said Nyondo. At his inauguration in July, Chakwera promised to clear the ‘rubble of corruption’ which he said has damaged the economy.
