Major reprieve for SA Express

Publish date: 17 January 2022

Category: Liquidations

SA Express has received another reprieve as the court hearing for its final liquidation was postponed to 4 July. According to a Beeld report, SA Express has secured a partnership with Global Impact Investments in its bid to raise funds to avert the liquidation. The airline was provisionally liquidated in April 2020 after failed business rescue attempts. Global Impact Investments executive chairperson Chris Hart is adamant that the airline can be saved. He welcomed the postponement of the matter as it provides time for the consortium powers to raise funds. ‘The airline’s name was tainted by state capture, as can be seen in the first part of the Zondo Commission’s Report. That was then, but this is now,’ he said. The Fly SAX consortium primarily consists of former SA Express employees who have not been able to garner enough financial backing up to date.
