Lifestyle audits top prosecutions officials
Prosecutions boss Andy Mothibi has ordered that Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (Idac) investigators and prosecutors undergo lifestyle audits – alongside the National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) leadership. Yesterday NPA spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago told News24 Mothibi had asked that the lifestyle audits of 29 management committee and executive committee members be conducted by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) when he took office in February 2026. This was not the result of any evidence of wrongdoing by these officials, Kganyago said, but rather because of the powerful positions they held. Following damaging testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into alleged police capture about Idac’s now-withdrawn prosecutions of Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo and his colleagues, Mothibi has now asked that Idac staff also be included in those lifestyle audit investigations. Former Idac head Andrea Johnson, who resigned because of the scandal surrounding the directorate’s aborted prosecutions of Khumalo and National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola, cannot be subjected to a lifestyle audit because she had left the organisation, Kganyago said.
