Lifeline for abandoned Kenyan bride

A Kenyan teenager last year posted her story of a sham marriage to a sex tourist from the west. Australian Fardowsa Abdirahman heard her cry for help after social media users created the hashtag #Justice4Jamila. A report on the allAfrica site notes that Fardowsa, who lives in Melbourne, set up a GoFundMe page which raised more than $10 000 to assist Jamila and her child in Kenya. Jamila was just 15 she was tricked into the sham marriage after being introduced to a rich Somali national who lived in the US. She was three months pregnant when her ‘husband’ disappeared.
