Striking teachers' salaries slashed

The government has slashed the salaries of about 4 000 teachers who have gone on strike as it seeks to enforce its no work no pay policy. The Lesotho Times reports that they went on strike in August to press for an 8% salary increase for the 2019/20 financial year. They also want the government to weed out ghost workers from the payroll. Each of the affected teachers will have US$165 deducted from their salaries this month. Entry level salaries for teachers are US$500 a month. The teacher unions have vowed to fight the decision.
