A leader of protests that began last December in the north-eastern Moroccan town of Jerada has been detained. Mustapha Dainane was arrested following a traffic accident. That’s according to a statement from the general prosecutor's office in the nearby town of Oujda, which added that the arrest ‘has no connection with the events in the city of Jerada’. A report on the News24 site notes that Said Zeroual, a local representative of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights told AFP that the activist, who gained popularity with spirited speeches during demonstrations in the former coal mining town, remains in custody. Dainane's usually active Facebook page, which displays a photo of Russian revolutionary Vladimir Lenin as its profile image, has been shut down.
