Land dispute leads to R1bn claim
An Mpumalanga community is suing the provincial government for almost R1bn after a two-decade dispute over land from which the government is said to be raking in millions a year, notes a report in The Times.
It says the Enqunqini ka-Majumba community wants almost R1bn 'as compensation for loss of income' it claims was caused by the Mpumalanga government. According to the report, Ka-Majumba leader Isaac Vusi Mokoena's father lodged a claim on farm Witklip 230 JT on behalf of the community in 1996. The claim was gazetted in 2005 but the community has yet to receive the land. Meanwhile, states the report, the government rakes in millions from it, the community says. Full report in The Times
