The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has closed 16 firms for failing to pay their taxes. LIRS director of legal services Seyi Alade said the state-wide campaign had wielded ‘the big stick on defaulters’. The Premium Times reports that he said the affected companies failed to meet a 31 March deadline. He said the affected companies were restaurants, hotels, and guest houses. ‘Our mission is to ensure that every taxable adult resident in Lagos State is captured into the tax net,’ he said.
