Kiir expresses willingness to step down

South Sudan's President Salva Kiir has expressed a willingness to resign, notes a report on the East African site. During a visit to the Department of Nationality, Passport and Immigration in Juba, he said those who took up arms to remove him from power were prolonging his stay. ‘I want to tell you that it is not my wish to stay for long in this office. The people who have made me stay for long are those who have blocked peace in the country ... . Violence cannot bring about a change of systems in South Sudan,’ he said. Last week, the Red Card Movement called for nationwide protests against Kiir's regime because of corruption, rights violations and the killing of activists, journalists and critics.
