Judge charged with obstructing justice

A Kenyan judge has been arrested and accused of coaching the main suspect in a high-profile murder trial – a widow whose husband was found dead in a septic tank. Appeal Court Judge Sankale ole Kantai has not commented on claims that he assisted Sarah Wairimu with her statement to police about her husband's death. BBC News reports that he was arrested on Friday, released on bail and is due to appear in court on charges of conspiring to defeat the ends of justice and interfering with witnesses. In September, the body of her husband, Dutch businessman Tob Cohen, was found two months after he had gone missing. Wairimu pleaded not guilty to her husband's murder and is awaiting trial. As previously reported in Legalbrief Today, a Nairobi court granted her permission to attend his burial following an agreement by Cohen’s family and Wairimu’s lawyer, Phillip Murgor.
