Kenya threatens visa sanctions against SA
Kenya has threatened to slap visa sanctions on South Africa if it does not relax its stringent visa rules on Kenyans, says a Polity report. The east African country is set to have talks with the South Africans in August to discuss the issue. South Africa last year imposed tough rules on Kenyans seeking to visit the country, with a service charge of around KES 5 850 (about R727) for applications. Visa processing now takes seven working days with those making visits of more than a month asked to pay an additional KES 4 800 (about R596). According to Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed, the rules will need to change if there is to be a level playing field.
