Law society warns foreign lawyers

The Law Society of Kenya has warned that foreign lawyers have been travelling to the country seeking to be hired by families of last year's Ethiopian Airlines crash victims. The Daily Nation reports that this began days after the 10 March crash of the Nairobi-bound Boeing 737 MAX. The lawyers and their firms placed advertisements in the local media, saying they would be seeking justice for families of the 157 victims. The LSK warned that the lawyers were not qualified to practise in Kenya ‘under the provisions of the Advocates Act’. LSK president Nelson Havi said they also needed permission from the Chief Justice and Attorney-General. ‘We will kick them out if they are already here,’ Havi added.
