Kagame critic gets bail

A Rwandan court on Friday granted bail to a vocal critic of President Paul Kagame who was barred from running against him in an election last year. The High Court said Diane Rwigara and her mother, who was arrested with her last year, would be released immediately but that they were not allowed to leave Kigali without authorisation. A TimesLIVE report notes that Rwigara and her mother were jailed a year ago on charges of incitement and forgery that were widely seen as politically motivated. The ruling comes soon after Victoire Ingabire, an opposition leader who had served six years of a 15-year jail term, was released after Kagame exercised his power to grant a pardon.
