Jihadists get life for terror attacks

A Tunisian court on Friday sentenced seven jihadists to life in prison over attacks at a museum and on a beach in 2015 that left dozens of tourists dead. Two separate trials were held over the closely linked attacks which occurred just months apart in Tunis and Sousse. A report on the EWN site notes that the court also handed down jail terms of between six and 16 years to some of the defendants, said prosecution spokeswoman Sofiene Sliti. Twenty-one defendants, including two women, appeared in the courtroom for the closed hearing. A report on the News24 site notes that several defendants pointed to the fugitive Chamseddine Sandi as mastermind of both attacks. He was reportedly killed in a US air strike in neighbouring Libya in February 2016, although there has been no confirmation.
