I wasn’t involved in Zimbabwe renditions – Sibiya

Shadrack Sibiya moved to distance himself from a controversial rendition operation as he gave his much-anticipated testimony, notes a Business Day report. During a sitting of the disciplinary inquiry about his involvement in the operation, the Gauteng Hawks boss pleaded ignorance over the illegal rendition of six Zimbabweans in 2010 and denied involvement in the operation. The report notes the fallout from the case has reverberated through the crime-fighting unit, with former Hawks national head Anwa Dramat among its high-profile victims. The Gauteng head of the Hawks ‘did not participate or give any instruction to anybody to trace and arrest the Zimbabwe nationals, to detain them or deport them at all’, Sibiya told the sitting. An internal investigation had cleared him of any wrongdoing, he said.
