Helping hand for kidnapped teacher

A group of teachers in Cameroon is clubbing together the pay the ransom for their kidnapped colleague. Bouba Samson was abducted in August by suspected English-speaking separatists, who later contacted his wife to demand payment to free him. Jacques Ngono, spokesperson for the Collective of Outraged Cameroonian Teachers, told the BBC that ‘this is about freeing a human being who is the hands of people who could kill him at any moment’. He notes that another teacher was recently decapitated in Bamenda ‘which has traumatised us on a national level’. The separatists are enforcing in the North-West and South-West regions to ensure schools remain shut for a fourth academic year in a row.
