Heavy sentences for poachers

A Tanzanian court has sentenced five men to jail terms ranging between 60 and 180 years for poaching in the Singida region. Magistrate Stella Kiama said the prosecution, led by state attorneys Salim Msemo, Patrida Muta and Tulumanywa Majigo, proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt. The Tanzanian Daily News reports that they included unlawful hunting of ‘scheduled animals’ and the unlawful possession of weapons. Elephant tusks and flesh and buffalo horns were recovered.
