Namibian President demands retraction of media report

Namibian President Hage Geingob has instructed France Radio Internationale (RFI) to retract an online article suggesting that he received payment from the sale of Canadian firm UraMin's Namibian assets to Areva, a French nuclear power company. Africa Mining Intelligence magazine first reported that Geingob ‘pocketed' $300 000 for facilitating the sale in 2012. RFI noted that Sébastien de Montessus, the former head of Areva's mining branch, has been charged with corruption in relation to the deal. New Era reports that Geingob’s lawyer have threatened to take ‘unspecified action’ against the French broadcaster if it fails to comply.
