Former Zanu-PF official appeals rape conviction
Former Zanu-PF legislator Munyaradzi Kereke has approached the High Court seeking to take his appeal against his child rape conviction to the Supreme Court for the second time. The ex-government adviser maintains he is innocent and that Magistrate Noel Mupeiwa erred in his judgment. As previously reported in Legalbrief Today, Kereke was jailed for 10 years in 2016 for raping his 11-year-old niece at gunpoint at his Vainona home. New Zimbabwe reports that his previous application was struck off the roll in March. 'I reiterate that the factual conclusions reached by that court were a result of an erroneous process of reasoning resulting from misapplication of legal principles and mischaracterisation of the facts and evidence,' Kereke's application states.
