Former PM released to get medical treatment in France

Hama Amadou, a leading opposition figure in Niger, has been released from prison to fly to France for medical care. The former Prime Minister is expected to remain in France for two weeks and then return to prison. He faces charges for his alleged role in the recent post-election violence. A report on the News24 site notes that he was detained on 1 March in Filingue following the widespread protests over the results of a February election that handed victory to ruling-party candidate Mohamed Bazoum.
