Ex-ANC MP Andrew Feinstein eyes UK Parliament

Former South African MP Andrew Feinstein will stand for a seat in the UK Parliament in an apparent bid to make life difficult for the leader of the opposition Labour Party, Keir Starmer. Feinstein is due to be an independent candidate in the Holborn and St Pancras constituency in London, but as a declared proxy of a faction within Keir's party. That will see him backed by a war chest of, so far, more than R500 000, and by a group of activists from across the UK. News24 reports that Feinstein has no real prospect of winning as Starmer has strong historic support in his constituency and wields vastly greater resources. However, he and his backers appear most interested in discomforting Starmer, very publicly, to make a point. The long-time resident of the Holborn and St Pancras constituency, was chosen as a suitable left-wing socialist candidate by the group Organise Corbyn Inspired Socialist Alliance. In 2001, Feinstein clashed with the ANC over the arms deal findings.
