'Underground cells’ thwarted

Ethiopian authorities say they have foiled underground cells of a group allegedly plotting to disrupt the upcoming elections. The National Intelligence and Security Service, Defence Forces, the Federal Police Commission, and Information Network Security Agency say the group is being provided with financial logistic support by 'extremist' diaspora based in different countries. The Addis Standard reports that they claim it is also supported by members of both opposition and ruling parties. They further claim the group is ‘intercommunicating’ with officials within the government's security apparatus and plotting to assassinate key leaders to entice violence in the aftermath.
