Farmers sue police for wrongful arrest

Five sugar cane farmers who were arrested for allegedly stealing equipment in 2013 are suing the police for $700 000. The Times of Swaziland reports that the missing items included tractors and tractor parts, water pumps and various tools. The suspects were detained at the Big Bend Correctional Services for 10 days. They are claiming damages for unlawful arrest and detention and ‘deprivation of personal liberty’ after the charges were withdrawn in October 2018. The complainants are being represented by Leo Ndvuna Dlamini of Nkosi Attorneys.
