Deported cleric slams Kigali's ‘heathen practices’

An American preacher who was arrested for holding an ‘illegal meeting with journalists’ has been deported from Rwanda. The New Times reports that the directorate-general for Immigration and Emigration Regis Gatarayiha confirmed that Gregg Schoof was removed from the country for being a ‘prohibited immigrant’ adding that he was ‘involved in activities that cause public disorder’. As previously reported in Legalbrief Today, Schoof was arrested for holding an ‘illegal meeting' last Monday. The cleric has criticised the government for shutting down his Amazing Grace radio station and church. The station was banned last year after it broadcast a sermon that described women as ‘evil’. And the church was one of hundreds which were barricaded for ’noise pollution’ and failing to comply with building regulations. Before boarding his flight, Schoof issued the following statement: ‘I did not come here to fight the government. I came to preach the gospel. I care nothing about politics. Nor do I care who is president or what party is in power. But this government has taken a stand against God with its heathen practices.’
