Date set for high-profile assault case

The Buganda Road Chief Magistrate's Court in Kampala will on 3 April rule on whether to dismiss the case in which six people are accused of attacking a Kampala magistrate. Simon Wanyera, Abdullah Waiswa, Augustine Ojobile, Joel Kabali, Fatuma Abalinabyo and Moses Katumba have been charged with inciting violence, malicious damage to property, contempt of court and common assault. New Vision reports that they were arrested on 2 August following the attack on Gladys Kamasanyu as she was sentencing activist Stella Nyanzi to 18 months' imprisonment for cyber harassment. Legalbrief reports that she was arrested in 2017 for defaming President Yoweri Museveni by describing him as ‘a pair of buttocks’.
