Dancer convicted of insulting flag
An Egyptian court has sentenced a popular Armenian belly dancer to six months in prison for ‘insulting the Egyptian flag’ after she allegedly wore a tight red, white and black dress. A report on the CTV News site notes that Sofinar Gourian was fined $2 000 and another $1 500 for bail pending an appeal. Insulting the flag was made illegal by decree under former President Adly Mansour who ruled for a year after the army overthrew President Mohammed Morsi in 2013.
