Cost of Ramaphosa’s Zimbabwe visit questioned

South African Government of Unity party, the Democratic Alliance (DA) said it will be submitting parliamentary questions to determine whether state funds were used to pay for President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit to Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s private farm. The DA also said Ramaphosa continues to rub shoulders with alleged money launderers operating in SA, reports EWN. The party’s stance follows reports that Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivhayo, who is currently under investigation in SA, was part of the delegation during the visit to Mnangagwa's farm the previous Sunday. DA International Relations spokesperson Ryan Smith said that, as a member of the GNU, the party will not tolerate the ANC’s excuses for being in the company of those responsible for Zimbabwe’s demise. He noted that Chivhayo is under investigation by SA’s Financial Intelligence Centre over allegations of money laundering involving more than R800m in public funds. Smith confirmed the DA will be questioning the President regarding the specific details of the trip. Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magweny characterised the Zimbabwe trip, as a ‘working visit’. He added that Ramaphosa was not aware of who was included in the delegation or whether any individuals are wanted by SA law enforcement.
