Creditors target Bushiri's luxury vehicles
Another luxury vehicle belonging to fugitive couple Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, is set to be auctioned, as numerous creditors scramble to recover over $11.3m in unpaid debt. City Press has learnt that the couple's fleet of vehicles is rapidly dwindling, with the latest car to be placed on auction being a Range Rover registered in Mary’s name. The auction comes as part of ongoing efforts by creditors to seize and liquidate the couple's assets to settle their substantial debts. Absa has approached the Gauteng High Court (Johannesburg) with an application to sell the car to recover a debt of $56 000 allegedly owed by Mary, who failed to make payments on the vehicle. The bank states that efforts to contact Bushiri have been unsuccessful as the couple fled SA in November 2020, after the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church leader was charged with fraud, money laundering and theft. Sources close to Bushiri’s estate revealed that the couple’s mansion in Blue Hills Estate, Johannesburg could go under the hammer as the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality seeks to recoup more than $56 000 in unpaid municipal services, rates and taxes that the property has accumulated.
