Protesters set court on fire

Angry community members of Ganyesa in North West burned down the local Magistrate’s Court following protests against two murder accused they wanted handed over, Beeld reports. Justice Minister Michael Masutha announced the closure of the court and transfer of all cases to the Vryburg Magistrate’s Court. He condemned the vandalism and said no grievance a community has could justify destruction of public property. Police spokesperson Amanda Funani said the protesters wanted the police to hand the accused to them and when the police refused, they caused havoc by burning a vehicle, looting shops and setting the court building alight. Twelve people were arrested for public violence.
