Contraband dummy seized at border

Ugandan officers have detained a smuggler carrying a dummy stuffed with banned cosmetics. The 'baby' was intercepted aboard a bus at the border with the DRC. 'Some smugglers never cease to amuse!' said customs commissioner Dickson Kateshumbwa in a tweet. BBC News reports that tons of banned skin-lightening products are smuggled into Uganda every year. They are often concealed in sacks of bananas, or plastic jerry cans with false bottoms. Most of the cosmetics are skin-lightening creams that were banned in Uganda in 2016 because they contain mercury and hydroquinone which have been linked to damaging side-effects.
