Case against Cronje suspended

An Indian court has agreed to push ahead with a case that accuses deceased SA cricketer Hansie Cronje and several bookies of conspiring to fix matches.

A report on the Sport24 site says the New Delhi court accepted the case last Tuesday, a day after police filed a 93-page charge sheet relating to 13-year-old allegations of match-fixing. However, notes the report, the court suspended the proceedings against Cronje, the former South African captain who died in a plane crash in 2002. Full report on the Sport24 site

Cronje's father, Ewie, is not about to let the matter go. He is quoted in Volksblad as saying he is considering legal steps against Indian authorities for the allegations contained in the current proceedings. In the charge sheet, it is alleged the former captain received almost R2m from bookmaker Sanjeev Chawla. 'That's nonsense. Where is the money?' Ewie Cronje reportedly said. He added that his son received only R450 000 from bookies. Full Volksblad report
