Businessman appeals against illegal flights verdict

South African cage fighter and businessman Frikkie Lutzkie was granted bail in a Zimbabwean court last week pending an appeal, says a Beeld report.

Lutzkie was earlier convicted of crossing the border unlawfully 14 times. He had to surrender his passport, pay guarantees of R250 000 and now has to report to the police in Harare once a week until his appeal is heard. The Harare Magistrate's Court also raised concern that Lutzkie may have smuggled diamonds or weapons with on his cross-border flights. He was convicted following a second crash-landing in his helicopter - this time in Zimbabwe. The first crash landing was in the Kalahari, but the South African Civil Aviation Authority has yet to act on the crash, which happened last year. Full Beeld report
