Businessman acquitted of killing girlfriend in Mauritius

Millionaire Johannesburg businessman Peter Wayne Roberts has been acquitted in Mauritius on a charge of manslaughter in connection with his girlfriend's death‚ his attorney confirmed last week, according to a TimesLIVE report. Lee-Ann Palmarozza (35) drowned in a swimming pool at the luxury Anahita resort on the island on 29 December 2014. Phillip Patlansky‚ who is a partner at the firm representing Roberts‚ confirmed seven out of nine jurors acquitted him. Roberts had been detained on the island since Palmarozza's death. He was provisionally charged with her murder which‚ according to Mauritian law‚ allows an individual to be held without being officially charged while the police investigate the case. He was later charged with manslaughter in September 2015.
