Soldiers linked to coup plot

Eight Burkina Faso soldiers have been detained over an alleged plot to overthrow the government. This comes after President Roch Marc Christian Kabore replaced his entire Cabinet. A report on the News24 site notes that the country has endured a brutal six-year conflict with armed groups linked to Isis and al-Qaeda which has killed about 2 000 people. Authorities say the suspects, including a high-ranking commander, were seeking to ‘destabilise’ the country's institutions. The military prosecutor's office said it had learned of the alleged plot on Saturday after ‘a member of the gang’ denounced the plan.
