Buhari nominates new anti-graft boss

Abdulrasheed Bawa, a deputy chief detective with Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) looks set to be confirmed to lead the flagship anti-graft agency. President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to confirm Bawa’s appointment. The Premium Times reports that he currently heads the Lagos office of the EFCC. In 2015, Bawa was appointed to head the commission's investigations of Diezani Alison-Madueke, a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, and her associates in a high-profile corruption case. If his nomination is successful, Bawa (40) will become the youngest person to lead the organisation which has not had a chairperson since November 2015. He will also be the first leader without a background in the Nigerian Police Force
