Appeal lodged over dismissed poll challenge

Namibia’s Workers Revolutionary Party (WRP), the South West Africa National Union (Swanu) and a faction of the Rally for Democracy and Progress have filed an urgent appeal to the Supreme Court after an attempt to have the 2019 National Assembly election declared invalid was rejected by the Electoral Court. WRP spokesperson Amanda Tsoeu claimed that three judges refused to hear their case. The Namibian reports that Tsoeu said the WRP, Swanu and the RDP have also laid a complaint with the Judicial Service Commission against Judge Nate Ndauendapo and Acting Judge Orben Sibeya. They claim Ndauendapo ‘openly declared that he is representing the opposition’ – a reference to the respondents cited in the election challenge – during a case management hearing on 12 March.
