Abortion laws amended
A report on the Daily Mail site notes that Angola's Parliament has approved changes to a colonial-era law and decriminalised abortion in some cases. As a result, abortions may be carried out before the sixth month of pregnancy in cases where the mother's life is in danger or if the pregnancy is a result of rape. However, the procedure remains illegal and can fetch up to three years in jail for the woman and four years for the practitioner. ‘Abortion is forbidden, it is a crime in Angola,’ Justice Minister Rui Mangueira is quoted in the report as saying.
